December 17th-21st is Winter-TAISETSU (greater snow)-63rd KOU “Salmon gather and swim upstream.”
The 63rd KOU describes the behavior of salmon that are born in a river, go to the sea, and return to the river to spawn.
Speaking of salmon, the MIOMOTE River in MURAKAMI City, NIIGATA prefecture, next to NAGANO prefecture, is famous. Salmon upstream began in late October and continues until mid-December, there.
I saw an angler on the SAIGAWA River, NAGANO City.
According to him, rainbow trout released by the local fishing association descend into the sea just like salmon. But weirs and dams along the way prevent salmon from reaching the ocean, where they grow larger and return back to the same river again.
The photo was taken about two months ago, another angler got a large rainbow trout.
