June 11th- June 15th, 2026 is Summer – BOSHU (Grain beards and seeds)-26th KOU “Rotten grass becomes HOTARU (fireflies).”
Is there any relationship between “rotten grass” and “HOTARU.”
HOTARU larvae emerge from the water and become adults in holes dug in the soil. People in the past who saw something with glowing crawl out might believe that rotten grass becomes HOTARU.
In fact, this symbolizes the start of the rainy season.
It’s the same spot again this year. Just one. While it’s beautiful when there are many HOTARU flying around, seeing just one is quite moving in its own way.
Now, it’s “BOSHU” as the 24 SEKKI (major seasonal points). “BO” refers to the hairy tip of the ear of grasses, especially rice. Rice planting has completed around here, that’s truly hard work,
