July 2nd- July 6th, 2026 is Summer – End of GESHI (Summer solstice)-30th KOU “HANGE (Crow-dipper) sprouts.”
The literal meaning of “HANGE” is “half of summer.”
The plant in the photograph goes by this name. It is said to have been named this way because it sprouts and grows during the height of summer.
Actually, the HANGE plant here bloomed in early May. That’s more than a month earlier than the description of the 30th-KOU, just like the NATSUKAREKUSA appeared in the previous KOU. And most of them had withered by the end of June.
But look! New shoots have appeared again, and they already have their distinctive shape (spathe). The vitality is amazing!
The rice planting and wheat harvesting are finished, and the apricot harvest is in full swing. Hopefully, thinning the apples and grapes will be finished by the beginning of this month. And after that, tending to the peaches also awaits.
The roots of HANGE plant are used in traditional Chinese medicine. Now, let’s draw some energy from it and get to work on the remaining farm tasks!
