August 18th – August 22nd, 2026 is Autumn – End of RISSHU (Start of autumn)-39th KOU “Thick fog descends”
According to the 24 SEKKI (Major divisions), it’s RISSHU (Start of autumn) and the SHICHIJYUNI-KOU tells that thick fog descends.
For fog to form, high humidity, a drop in temperature to near the dew point, and light winds are required.
Lately, the early mornings have been dry (anyway absolutely no rain), with temperatures around 25°C and breeze was pleasant and moderate. In short, these days weather conditions have been not right for fog to develop.
Countless red dragonflies were darting about over the water’s surface, glittering in the morning sun. AKIAKANE (autumn darters) emerge in early summer and initially migrate to high mountains, then, as the autumn winds begin to blow, they descend to the lowlands.
I had thought the season of “Thick fog descends” was still a little way off, but the way these AKIAKANE travel to the lowlands has signaled that autumn is drawing near.
